Frankie found he enjoyed working in a team
Read about how Frankie's self-belief and confidence soared
Frankie, an 18-year-old student at Northfleet Technical College, is undertaking a Level 2 Multi-trade course and joined our programme with low levels of self-esteem. Despite having an interest in property construction, Frankie didn’t have the self-belief to pursue a next step in the industry, with limited access to role models and meaningful work experience. He wanted to improve his understanding of the career options available, developing his confidence to make a positive transition after college.
Frankie took part in our Building Future Skills programme. This was a fantastic opportunity for him to be immersed in the world-of-work, enhancing his motivation and confidence. During a site visit, Frankie gained an experiential taste of the built environment sector and relished the opportunity to explore a large-scale development. He discovered a variety of aspirational careers, including on-site roles which were suited to his interests, allowing Frankie to visualise himself in a built environment role and recognise his own potential. As the Building Future Skills programme developed, Frankie had a chance to showcase his professional skills in a number of tasks. This involved a group activity, in which Frankie helped to design and plan the construction of a community centre, receiving exceptional feedback from industry professionals.
We are delighted to report that Frankie, having grown so much in confidence throughout the programme and engaged impressively with volunteers, has been offered a prospective job offer with a major property developer upon completing his college course! We look forward to supporting him throughout the transition as he kickstarts his career in the construction industry.
